FOREST DEER HAS SOMETHING TO TELL YOU!
Forest deer, Rangifer tarandus fennicus (Metsäpeura/Suomen peura) lives in Finland and northwestern Russia only. During Stoneage Finns hunted the Forest deer, till it became extinct.
1940–1950 Forest deer started to spread again in Finland and now the population is monitored.
Forest deer conservation and population management project, MetsäpeuraLIFE, cordinated by Metsähallitus and funded by EU (60%) is trying to spread Metsäpeura in its native areas.
But nowadays Forest deer is having many problems in Finish nature; forest-industry and forest-road network, Reindeer herding area in northern Finland takes 1/3 from our country.
Also huge Windpowerparks in the deep forest are disturbing not only the deer but also many other animals.
That's very sad and many conservationists started to resist against the big companies, who in a hurry turn our forest into an industrial area.
